About

A fruit fly brain, thinking live on the web.

What this is

FLY lets you watch a digital fruit fly brain think. Activity moves through 176,422 neurons while the fly notices things, remembers and makes decisions.

Everything the fly and the observers produce is written to a public journal. This website reads that journal and shows it to you. It cannot write anything back. A token launch may follow the commit; if it does, the launch records appear in the live feed like everything else.

How the brain works

The wiring comes from the Janelia Male CNS dataset. The fly receives changing signals, activity moves through the brain, and its strongest needs and memories shape what happens next.

How to verify

Every record carries a fingerprint and links to the record before it. The Proof page checks that history. Open any live record to see its details.
